What to Expect
EUS is performed under sedation. A special endoscope with an ultrasound probe is used to examine the layers of the intestinal wall and nearby structures like the pancreas, bile ducts, and lymph nodes. Fine needle aspiration (FNA) biopsies can be performed during EUS.
